2013 LOORS 1 & 2/Wayland's first race!

by Tammy Campbell on 03/18/13

Lucas Oil Off Road Racing opened the season right here in Chandler, AZ at Firebird Raceway (Mar 16 & 17).  Rounds 1 & 2 of the Prolite class was the most exciting class to watch this weekend (for me anyway)!  Wayland (17yrs) would make his debut in the #3 Southwest Ground Control/Campbell Ent. built Prolite truck-making this his second time out in the truck.  I will admit I was a little nervous but Wayland completely amazed me. He pulled onto the track with confidence even knowing that he still has alot to learn.  On Saturday Wayland qualified 20th and was slowly moving up until he put it on his side in turn 4.  The safety crew was there immediatley (they are awesome by the way) and pulled him back over.  Unable to get it started right away they pulled him into the pits.  Our awesome crew got him strapped back in and out onto the track. He finished 15th.  Sunday Wayland qualified 19th.  Trying to work his way towards the front he came in to fast in turn 3 and spun out but never hesitated and got back after it.  Coming back around to the front stretch he went over the jump and wasn't aware another truck was having issues and was up against the wall in turn 1 and unintentionally made contact and lost a tire. Wayland quickly pulled into the pits and had it changed and returned to the track. Finishing 13th for the day.  Shannon and Wayland will be putting int he new motor this week and get it ready for rounds 3 & 4 in Las Vegas April 25-28.  Ron told him this was his test weekend and he better be ready to make it count.  Thank you to the Pit crew for working your tails off and keeping Wayland in the race!!! There were alot family and friends out this weekend who were cheering Wayland on and it was awesome. Thank You!!!
